Azeitão (Lisboa region) – Cheese, Bread, and Wine FestivalSheep shearing, Azeitão cheese making, and enjoying the most recently produced wine along with bread baked in a wooden stove are all part of the local traditions and cultural heritage that are preserved in this festival in Quinta do Anjo.

Alcochete (Lisboa region) – Horse Fair. This fair is composed of a display of carriages and competitions for the best costume.

Vila Franca de Xira (Lisboa region) – Marathon Alongside the River – You can choose from a 4km or a 14 km marathon alongside the river Tagus - an excellent opportunity to get to know the Natural Reserve Estuary and for close contact with nature.

Lamego (North of Portugal) – Holy Week - The program for Holy Week includes the ritual of the bathing of the feet, the procession of the flags, the procession of the Passion of the Lord, and a performance by musical choirs of sacred & classical music.

Braga (North of Portugal) – Holy Week Festivities - Braga is considered the Portuguese city that celebrates Holy Week with the greatest splendor and is decorated with Holy Week motifs. On Thursday and Good Friday evenings, there is a procession called “Enterro do Senhor” (the Burial of the Lord).

Óbidos (Lisboa region) – Holy Week Festivities - The religious Easter celebration lasts for 2 weeks and includes a torchlight procession within the medieval castle’s walls that depicts the Passion.

Évora (Alentejo region) – Holy Week Festivities - These festivities are some of the most important in the south of Portugal. They take place at the “Sé” and the “Igreja da Misericórdia” and include an evening procession known as the “Senhor Morto” (Dead Lord) from the “Convento do Calvário” to the “Igreja da Misericórdia”.

Constância (Lisboa region)– Festas de N. Srª. da Boa Viagem - Also known as the “Festa dos Barqueiros” (Boatmen’s Festival) is takes place on Holy Week and it includes various festivities and a handicraft fair. The high point of the festival is the boat procession. It takes place on the Monday after Easter and the boats are blessed in order keep away misfortune.

Loulé (Algarve region) – Romaria de Nossa Senhora da Piedade ou da Mãe Soberana - On Easter Sunday, the image of Nª Srª da Piedade will descend from the sanctuary headed to the “Igreja (Church) de S. Francisco”. It will remain there on display to the public for 15 days witnessing vigils, novenas, and sermons. After the 15th day, there will be a procession in the streets of Loulé that culminates with the climbing of the slope that leads the image once again to its sanctuary.

Lisboa – Musical Festival in Belém - The Belém Cultural Centre presents another “Festas da Música” – an annual musical festival dedicated to a central theme – this year it will be the Romantics from the XIX. . The festival consists of a chain of classical music staged simultaneously and continuously over a single weekend in different parts of the Belém complex. www.ccb.pt

Island of São Jorge (Azores) – Festas de São Jorge – local festivities
April 29 - May 3 Barcelos (North of Portugal) – Festa das Cruzes (Festival of the Crosses) - This event is considered the most significant festival in Barcelos. It commemorates the “Miracle of the Crosses”. In I504, a farmer who had decided to work on the Day of the Holy Cross, saw a luminous and fragrant cross appear on the earth on which he was digging and he could not make it disappear. On every 3rd of May there is the Procession of the Holy Cross. The program also includes a spectacular display of fireworks with music.
April 29 - May 8 Lisboa– Lisbon World Golf Amateur 2004 - The event is sure to grow yearly into one of the biggest of its kind in Europe. The Lisbon Classic, a 72-hole stroke play tournament, will give players the chance to enjoy four of the finest courses in the region of Lisboa.
